Tetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) has been utilized as a novel and efficient catalyst for the Knoevenagel condensation of aldehydes with acidic methylene compounds such as methyl- and ethylcyanoacetate, malononitrile, and cyanoacetamide to afford substituted olefins.
